Urum Nuur · Bulgan, Mongolia
Competitors from Mongolia and around the world unite in teams of ten, bringing speed, strength, precision and horsemanship to one festival.
A khuraldai is also a meeting of people and ideas. Inspired by ancestral remembrance and the fellowship of historic lakeside gatherings, this winter Naadam brings competition together with learning, ceremony and celebration.
The story & the aravtEach skill counts toward the overall result. Discover the challenge and read the full rules for each discipline.

Long-distance horse relay
Each rider completes a 4.2195 km lap, handing the bronze gerege to the next rider. Horse changes and handovers count toward team time.

Aravt team wrestling
Ten pairs wrestle at once on a 50 m felt arena. The first aravt to six victories wins; a 5–5 tie goes to a three-person decider.

Long-range archery
Two men and one woman shoot three arrows each. Every hit counts. Tied teams continue with the target moved nine metres farther away.

Mounted archery & saber challenge
All ten riders shoot forward, strike three saber targets, and shoot backward on the return. Team hits decide the score; time breaks a tie.

History, ceremony and living culture form the heart of the gathering. The declaration sets out these programme themes; exact timings will follow.

FESTIVAL DAY
The hunting horn and great drum call the gathering. Nayaa Noyon’s nine blue-maned standard is raised, and the aravts meet in the four trials.
CULTURE & CELEBRATION
Saikhan and Orkhon share their horse and airag traditions. The festival anthem joins the celebration from the rising sun toward the evening moon.
The declaration also proposes a gathering of 20,000 horses and a 500-camel caravan from the Gobi. These are ambitions, not confirmed attendance or bookable services. Read the festival anthem
