How it works
Detailed explanation of the initial competition concept and rules v1.0. Technical regulations and safety conditions will be approved separately.
01
The arena and the ten pairs
Two aravts field twenty wrestlers in ten simultaneous pairs on a circular felt arena 50 m in diameter. Each team fields eight men and two women. Men face men and women face women. All ten bouts begin together on the referee’s signal.
02
The gerege ceremony and choosing opponents
Before the toss, the referee announces which upward-facing side of the bronze Yam Relay gerege will give each team the first choice. The gerege is thrown skyward and allowed to settle on the ground. The winning aravt chooses one pairing; the other team chooses from the remaining wrestlers. Choices alternate until all ten pairs are formed. A wrestler already chosen cannot be chosen again.
03
Six wins and a 5–5 decider
The first aravt to six victories wins the team match. Remaining bouts are completed according to the referee’s safety decision, and the total wins across all ten bouts are recorded for later ranking. At 5–5, each aravt chooses two men and one woman for an additional first-to-two-wins contest.
04
Felt, scarves and celebration
The original concept brings the felt arena into place by horse and spreads it in eight directions. Wrestlers wear lambskin scarves; the winner takes and wears the defeated wrestler’s scarf. After the team result is announced, teammates may perform their celebratory devekh together.
05
The ten-team knockout bracket
Four teams contest two opening matches and six receive byes. The remaining eight proceed through quarterfinals, semifinals, a third-place match, and the final. Places 5–8 are ranked without additional matches by total bout victories up to elimination. If those totals tie, opponent-performance criteria will be specified by technical regulations. First-year byes use an open draw; the concept proposes considering the previous year’s ranking in later editions.
