How it works

Detailed explanation of the initial competition concept and rules v1.0. Technical regulations and safety conditions will be approved separately.

Mounted archer artwork

The idea of the agile rider

Noqai Kerel draws on a Mongolian tactical idea of approaching and provoking an opponent with arrows, then turning and withdrawing to tire them. In this sporting interpretation, all ten riders of every aravt combine mounted archery and saber target skills.

Outward run and return shot

On the outward run, each rider shoots at a forward target and strikes three ball targets with a saber, in right–left–right order. As the horse turns and runs back, the rider turns their body to shoot backward at the return-direction target. A full seated turn in the saddle is a separate possibility requiring safety trials, professional assessment, and a special regulation.

Three progressively narrower openings

The concept protects each ball with wooden shields above and below, leaving only an opening for the saber. The proposed openings narrow from 15 cm at the first target to 10 cm at the second and 5 cm at the third. These are design dimensions in the initial rules; safe equipment and execution conditions must be approved after trials.

Team score and time

Referees record each rider’s successful arrow hits and ball strikes. Their totals form the aravt’s score. Equal scores are separated by the shorter combined completion time. Detailed scoring weights and safe performance conditions will be fixed in technical regulations after testing.
